Understanding Your Balances

When reviewing your account, you will see two key figures:

  • Current Balance -This reflects all transactions that have been fully posted to your account, including deposits, withdrawals, and transfers.
  • Available Balance -This is the amount you can actually spend or withdraw right now. It accounts for pending transactions, merchant holds, and any overdraft protection limits. Your available balance may be lower than your current balance if transactions are still processing.

Most pending transactions clear within 1 to 3 business days. Cheque deposits may take up to 5 business days to fully clear depending on the issuing institution.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Why does my available balance differ from my current balance?

Pending transactions, merchant pre-authorisation holds, or recent deposits that have not yet cleared can cause a temporary difference between the two balances. Once all pending items are processed, the balances will align.

Q: How often is my balance updated?

Your balance is updated in real time for most digital transactions. Batch-processed items such as cheques or scheduled transfers are typically updated overnight.

Q: Can I set up balance alerts?

Yes. Through online banking or the mobile app, you can configure alerts to notify you when your balance drops below a threshold you choose, when deposits are received, or when large transactions occur.

Important Information

Your account information is protected under regulations enforced by Australian Prudential Regulation Authority (APRA). Deposits are safeguarded by Financial Claims Scheme (FCS). For unresolved concerns, contact Australian Financial Complaints Authority (AFCA).
