Online Check-in and Boarding Pass Guide

Overview

Checking in before you reach the airport saves time, lets you choose or confirm your seat, and gives you a digital boarding pass that can be scanned at security and the gate. This guide explains when check-in opens, the channels available, document requirements by destination, how baggage drop works, and what to do if the system cannot check you in automatically.

When Check-in Opens

  • Domestic flights -Online and mobile check-in open 24 hours before scheduled departure.
  • International flights -Online and mobile check-in open 24 hours before scheduled departure, subject to visa and document verification.
  • Airport counter and kiosk check-in -Typically open 3 hours before departure for international flights and 2 hours before domestic flights. Counters close 45 to 60 minutes before departure depending on the airport.

Check-in Channels

  • Mobile App -Fastest option. A digital boarding pass is saved to the app and mobile wallet once check-in is complete.
  • Website -Print your boarding pass at home or save it as a PDF.
  • Airport Self-Service Kiosks -Available at Narita International Airport (NRT) / Haneda Airport (HND) and most of our stations. Kiosks also support baggage tag printing on many routes.
  • Counter check-in -Staff-assisted check-in for complex itineraries, special assistance, or when document checks are required.

Travel Documents

Requirements vary by route. As a general rule, passengers should always carry:

  • A valid government-issued photo ID for domestic travel.
  • A valid passport with sufficient remaining validity (typically at least 6 months beyond your travel date) for international travel.
  • Any required visas, electronic travel authorisations, or entry permits for your destination and any transit countries.
  • Proof of onward travel if required by your destination country.
  • Supporting documents for infants, unaccompanied minors, or pets travelling with you.

If our system cannot confirm your documents automatically, you will be directed to a check-in counter at the airport for a manual review.

Baggage Drop

If you have checked baggage:

  1. Complete online or mobile check-in before arriving at the airport.
  2. Print or generate your baggage tags at a self-service kiosk, or use a counter drop.
  3. Attach the tag to the handle of each checked bag and proceed to the baggage drop counter.
  4. Present your ID, passport, and boarding pass if requested.
  5. Retain the baggage claim receipt. You will need it if your bag is delayed or if you need to collect it after landing.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: The app will not let me check in. What should I do?

This is often due to a document that requires verification, a group booking that must be checked in together, or a change to the flight. Visit a counter at the airport and our agents will complete the process.

Q: Can I still use mobile check-in if I am travelling with an infant?

Yes. Once you complete mobile check-in, visit the counter for your infant's boarding pass and any required document checks.

Q: How late can I check in if I have no bags?

We recommend arriving at the airport at least 90 minutes before domestic and 3 hours before international departures. Gate closure times are printed on your boarding pass and strictly enforced.

Q: Can I check in at the airport if I already have my mobile boarding pass?

Yes. Proceed directly to baggage drop if you have checked luggage, or to security if you have cabin bags only.
